About Cents of Adventure

Cents of Adventure was created to explore the connection between personal finance, credit, and travel, and to share practical insights grounded in real-world experience.

This site reflects both my personal journey with money and travel, and my professional background working with individuals and families navigating complex financial systems.

My perspective

I didn't grow up with a financial safety net. My family went through real hardship early on - the kind that resets what you expect is possible - and I watched people around me hit normal milestones while I navigated a much narrower set of options. When your world is restricted like that, you develop a real hunger to see what's beyond it

For over a decade, I worked directly with people navigating complex financial systems and making decisions under real constraints. That experience shaped how I think about money - not as abstract theory, but as practical trade-offs people face every day.

I've spent years independently studying finance - from investment fundamentals to credit strategy to personal finance optimization - learning what actually matters versus what's just noise. This combination gives me a unique perspective: I understand both the systems and the human realities behind financial decisions.

How that shows up here

Cents of Adventure reflects that perspective by:

  • Explaining credit cards and rewards in practical terms

  • Sharing destination guides with the budget and financial context most travel sites leave out

  • Breaking down how specific trips were actually funded - the cards, points, and trade-offs behind them

The goal is to make financial and travel decisions easier to understand and apply.
