For me, American Express is less about points and more about credits. I treat these cards like a structured coupon book — and because the credits line up with things I already spend on, I consistently get more value back than the annual fee.

The points are a bonus, not the reason I keep the card. The real value comes from statement credits, travel benefits, and protections that I would otherwise pay for out of pocket.

Why I use it:
When I actually use the credits, the card doesn’t cost me money — it makes me money.
