The certificate came from my World of Hyatt credit card's anniversary benefit, which grants one free night at any Category 1-4 property. These certs are easy to overlook, but when used right, they can return massive value. In this case, I got over 3.2 cents per point in value, far above Hyatt's typical 1.7¢ average according to The Points Guy.
Why Santa Cruz?
Santa Cruz is one of California's most underrated coastal cities. It's got redwood forests, walkable beaches, and just the right blend of laid-back surfer town meets weekend getaway. In July, hotels along the coast surge in price, so the timing made this redemption even sweeter.
